Behance New York, NY 2015
Commissioned by Adobe

At the center of Behance’s New York office, the main stair becomes a conduit for color—carrying light, movement, and atmosphere between two floors. What reads as a luminous surface from one vantage point unfolds as a layered spatial element from another, casting color through the office and tying levels together through a shared condition.

The installation occupies the central stair connecting the two floors, using vertical circulation as an opportunity to create a continuous spatial experience. Visible from nearly everywhere in the office, the piece acts as a three-dimensional stained-glass window—activating the otherwise restrained palette of white surfaces and clean finishes throughout the interior.

Color functions as both material and connector. Drawing from Behance and Adobe’s brand palettes, the installation transitions from saturated reds on one side of the stair to blues on the other. Secondary hues are interwoven throughout the surface, producing a vibrant field that shifts with angle, distance, and movement.

Extending the full height of the stair, the installation frames a feature light fixture at the upper landing and descends toward communal seating at the base. In doing so, it links moments of pause, movement, and gathering into a single vertical gesture. Light passing through the colored surfaces animates adjacent walls and floors, carrying color across levels.

Rather than functioning as an object to be viewed in isolation, the work is experienced through daily use. As people circulate through the stair, color, reflection, and transparency continuously change, embedding the installation into the rhythm of the workplace and transforming circulation into an atmospheric event.
