Glas Trösch BAU Munich, DE 2013
Commissioned by Glas Trösch

Glass is reimagined not as a surface, but as a condition—diffuse, layered, and unstable. Through curved veils of translucency, the space invites visitors inward without marking a boundary, transforming the booth into an environment defined by gradients rather than edges.

The installation rethinks the conventions of the trade show booth, which typically rely on rigid grids and box-like enclosures. By abandoning fixed fronts and backs, the space becomes omni-directional—readable from all sides and approachable from any angle. Rather than standing apart from circulation, it absorbs it, encouraging wandering instead of directed entry.

The concept draws from atmospheric states of glass—condensation, mist, and fog—where transparency gives way to diffusion. These conditions are translated spatially through layered, curved curtains that create shifting degrees of opacity as visitors move around and through the space. Zones emerge gradually, defined by overlap and proximity rather than walls.

Above, the curtains gather into a cloud-like canopy that generates visual currents and turbulence within the booth. Below, a dense landscape of colored glass sheets rises along the southern edge, acting as a secondary filter that mixes and refracts color. As visitors pass, hues separate and recombine, producing subtle chromatic shifts tied to movement and viewpoint.

Together, these elements form a continuously changing environment. By replacing enclosure with atmosphere and edges with gradients, the installation transforms glass into an experiential medium—one that invites intuitive entry, lingering, and exploration without ever fully containing the visitor.
